Main-Franconian

Main-Franconian is a group of Germanic dialects spoken in the German state of Hesse. It is also spoken in the German-speaking Community of Belgium, in the Eupen-Malmedy area of Belgium, and in the Moselle department of France. It is spoken by about four million people. Main-Franconian dialects are: * Hessian dialects * Rhine Franconian dialects * Moselle Franconian dialects The Hessian dialects are the most widely spoken. They are spoken in the western and central part of Hesse, in the Rhine-Main area, and in the northern part of the state of Hesse. The Rhine Franconian dialects are spoken in the Rhine-Main area, in the Eupen-Malmedy area of Belgium, and in the Moselle department of France. The Moselle Franconian dialects are spoken in the Moselle department of France.
