Tlingit

The Tlingit language is a member of the Na-Dene family of languages and is spoken in Southeast Alaska and Western Canada. It is one of the few North American languages with its own unique writing system, which is a syllabary consisting of 24 characters. The Tlingit people have a rich oral tradition and their language is an important part of their cultural identity. The Tlingit language is used in everyday life and is also taught in schools. There are an estimated 500 speakers of Tlingit, most of whom are over the age of 40. However, there is a growing number of young people who are interested in learning the language. The Tlingit language is a beautiful and complex language that is an important part of the Tlingit people’s heritage.
