Kinaray-a is a language spoken in the Philippines. It is the official language of the province of Antique and is also spoken in the Aklan province. There are about 2 million speakers of Kinaray-a. Kinaray-a is a member of the Malayo-Polynesian language family and is related to other Philippine languages such as Tagalog, Cebuano and Hiligaynon. The language has two dialects, Central Kinaray-a and Southern Kinaray-a. The Kinaray-a alphabet consists of 20 letters, including 14 consonants and 6 vowels. The language has no grammatical gender and there are no articles. Word order is typically Subject-Verb-Object. Kinaray-a is a language with a rich oral tradition. Folktales, songs and poems are commonly passed down from generation to generation. The language is also used in literature, with Kinaray-a novels and poems being published. The Kinaray-a language is facing extinction as more and more speakers are switching to other languages such as Tagalog, English and Hiligaynon. However, there are efforts to revive the language, with courses being offered in Kinaray-a and some schools teaching the language.
