Balinese

Balinese is an Austronesian language spoken on the Indonesian island of Bali. It is also spoken in the neighbouring provinces of Lombok and West Nusa Tenggara, and has some speakers in East Timor and Sulawesi. Balinese is a member of the Malayo-Polynesian branch of the Austronesian language family, and is closely related to the languages of the neighbouring islands of Lombok and Sumbawa. The Balinese script, known as Aksara Bali, is a descendant of the ancient Brahmi script and is used to write the Balinese language. The script is used mainly for religious texts, but is also used for other purposes such as in wedding invitations and signs. The Balinese script is written from left to right and is made up of two main types of characters: consonants and vowels. The consonants are represented by symbols that are based on the shapes of the letters of the Latin alphabet, while the vowels are represented by symbols that are based on the shapes of the letters of the Balinese alphabet. The Balinese script is not used as a primary script in any other language, but it is used as a secondary script in the Buginese language.
