Cypriot syllabary

The Cypriot syllabary is a syllabic script used in ancient Cyprus, consisting of around 200 symbols. The script is attested from the 11th century BC to the 5th century AD, and was used to write the Cypriot dialect of Greek. It is closely related to the Linear B script, which was used to write Mycenaean Greek, and both scripts share a common origin in the older Cypro-Minoan script. The Cypriot syllabary is thought to be derived from the Cypro-Minoan script, which was used to write the Mycenaean Greek dialect. This script is attested from around the 14th century BC, and is thought to be derived from the earlier Linear A script. The Cypriot syllabary shares many features with Linear B, including the same number of symbols and the same syllabic structure. The script was used to write the Cypriot dialect of Greek, which was spoken on the island of Cyprus. The dialect was closely related to the Attic dialect of Greek, and the two were often confused by ancient writers. The Cypriot syllabary is thought to have been used from the 11th century BC to the 5th century AD. The script consists of around 200 symbols, most of which represent consonants. The symbols are written in a grid-like pattern, with each symbol representing a syllable. The syllabic structure of the script is similar to that of Linear B, with each symbol representing a consonant-vowel combination. The script is thought to be named after the island of Cyprus, where it was first used. The name Cypriot syllabary is first attested in the 5th century AD, in the work of the Greek grammarian Hesychius of Alexandria. The Cypriot syllabary is a valuable source of information for scholars of ancient Greek. It is one of the few sources of information about the Cypriot dialect of Greek, and provides insight into the development of the Greek language. The script is also important for the study of the Mycenaean civilization, as it is one of the few sources of information about this culture.
