Manipuri

Manipuri is a language spoken in the northeastern Indian state of Manipur. It is the official language of Manipur, and is also spoken in the neighbouring states of Assam and Mizoram. Manipuri is a member of the Tibeto-Burman family of languages, and is closely related to other languages spoken in the region, such as Mizo and Kuki. Manipuri is written in the Bengali alphabet, and has a rich literary tradition. The first Manipuri book was printed in 1824, and the first Manipuri newspaper was published in 1838. Manipuri is spoken by around 1.5 million people, and is an important language in the state of Manipur. It is used in the media, in education, and in government. Manipuri is also one of the twenty-two scheduled languages of India, and is protected under the Constitution of India.
