South African Rand

The South African Rand (ZAR) is the currency of South Africa. It is subdivided into 100 cents (c). The Rand is legal tender in the Common Monetary Area between South Africa, Swaziland, Lesotho, and Namibia, although the last three countries have monetary unions with South Africa, and Namibia also uses the South African Rand. A Rand banknote features a portrait of Nelson Mandela on the front and the Big Five animals on the back.
