The Brazilian Real (BRL) is the currency of Brazil. It is subdivided into 100 centavos. The Central Bank of Brazil is the central bank and the issuing authority. The real was introduced in 1994, replacing the cruzeiro real. Its name is derived from the old Portuguese unit of currency, the real. The real is currently the tenth most traded currency in the world.
