US Dollar (Next day)

The United States Note (USN) was a type of federal currency issued from 1862 to 1971. It was similar to the Federal Reserve Note (FRN), but was not backed by gold or silver, and was therefore not redeemable for precious metal. The USN was issued by the Treasury Department and was the first currency to use the motto "In God We Trust". The USN was first issued in 1862 in response to the need for more currency to finance the American Civil War. The design of the note was very similar to the contemporary FRN, with the exception of the motto, which was added in 1863. The USN was initially issued in denominations of $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100. The USN was discontinued in 1971, when the FRN became the sole legal tender in the United States.
