Sudanese Dinar (SDD) is the currency of Sudan. It is subdivided into 100 qirush. The Sudanese pound was introduced in 1956, replacing the Egyptian pound at par. The pound was subdivided into 20 shillings, each of which was subdivided into 5 piastres. The Sudanese pound was pegged to the U.S. dollar at a rate of $2 = £S1. In 1992, Sudan began issuing its own currency, the Sudanese dinar, replacing the Sudanese pound at a rate of 1 dinar = 10 pounds. The dinar is subdivided into 100 qirush. The Sudanese dinar has been pegged to the U.S. dollar since its introduction in 1992. The exchange rate is currently $1 = SDD4.75. Sudanese dinars are available in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 dinars. Coins are available in denominations of 1, 2, 5, and 10 qirush, and banknotes are available in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 dinars.
