Falkland Islands Pound

The Falkland Islands Pound is the official currency of the Falkland Islands, a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic Ocean. The Falkland Islands Pound is pegged to the Pound Sterling at par and is interchangeable with Sterling at banks in the Falkland Islands. One Falkland Islands Pound is divided into 100 pence. Coins in circulation are 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1, £2, £5, with the £1 coin being bi-metallic. Banknotes in circulation are £10, £20, £50. There are no Falkland Islands paper notes for £5, £10 or £20. The Falkland Islands Pound is not legal tender in the United Kingdom but can be exchanged for Sterling at any bank in the Falkland Islands. The Pound Sterling is also the currency of the nearby British Overseas Territories of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, and the UK Antarctic Territory. All three territories are part of the Pound Sterling area, which means that the Falkland Islands Pound is also used in these territories. The Falkland Islands Pound is not a widely used currency, and is mostly used by tourists and businesses in the Falkland Islands.
