Peruvian Inti

The Prince Edward Island (PEI) dollar is the official currency of the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island. The dollar was introduced in 1873, replacing the Canadian dollar. It is divided into 100 cents. The dollar is named after Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn, the fourth son of King George III and father of Queen Victoria. The image on the dollar features a portrait of Prince Edward on the obverse and the coat of arms of PEI on the reverse. The PEI dollar is pegged to the Canadian dollar at a rate of 1.2 PEI dollars to 1 Canadian dollar. As of July 2016, the PEI dollar is accepted as legal tender in Canada. However, its use is limited to the province of PEI and businesses in PEI may choose to accept or not accept the currency. The PEI dollar is not a widely used currency, but it is unique in that it is the only Canadian provincial currency that is not also legal tender in the rest of Canada.
