Comorian Franc

KMF, also known as the Comorian franc, is the official currency of the Comoros. It is divided into 100 centimes and is pegged to the euro at a rate of 1 EUR = 491.9 KMF. The Comorian franc was introduced in 1961, replacing the French franc. The name "franc" was retained, as the Comoros were a French colony until 1975. Coins and banknotes denominated in centimes and francs were issued until 1999, when a new currency, the Comorian franc, was introduced. The Comorian franc is issued by the Central Bank of the Comoros, which is located in Moroni, the capital city of the Comoros. The banknotes are printed in France by the Banque de France and are similar in design to the French franc banknotes. The Comorian franc is used in all three of the Comoros islands: Grande Comore, Anjouan and Mohéli. The Comorian franc is not a widely traded currency, but it is pegged to the euro, which gives it some stability. The Comoros is a small, poor country and its currency is not widely used outside of the country.
