Belize Dollar

The currency of Belize is the Belize dollar. It is pegged to the U.S. dollar at a rate of 2:1. This means that one Belize dollar is worth two U.S. dollars. The Belize dollar is subdivided into 100 cents. There are coins of 1, 5, 10, 25, and 50 cents, and 1 dollar. There are also banknotes of 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 dollars. The Belize dollar was first introduced in June 1885, replacing the British Honduras dollar. The currency was initially pegged to the U.S. dollar at a rate of 1:1. This peg was maintained until 1967, when the Belize dollar was devalued to a rate of 2:1. The devaluation was a result of the devaluation of the British pound. The Belize dollar has been pegged to the U.S. dollar since then. The Central Bank of Belize is responsible for the issuance of the Belize dollar. The bank was established in 1981, and took over the responsibilities of the former Currency Board. The bank is responsible for the monetary policy of Belize, and for the supervision of the banking system. The Belize dollar is used in Belize, and in the Cayman Islands. It is also accepted in some places in Guatemala and Honduras.
