Phags-pa is a Tibetan script that was used for writing the Tibetan, Mongolian, and Chinese languages. It was created in the 13th century by the Tibetan monk and scholar, Phags-pa Lama. The script is based on the Tibetan alphabet, but includes additional letters to represent the sounds of Mongolian and Chinese.
The Phags-pa script was used for a short period of time during the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), but fell out of use after the dynasty ended. It is now used mainly for decorative purposes.
