Mayan hieroglyphs

Mayan hieroglyphs were the writing system of the Maya civilization of Mesoamerica and were used in many of its monumental and architectural inscriptions. The earliest inscriptions found which are unequivocally Maya date to the 3rd century BCE in San Bartolo, Guatemala. The earliest "long count" date found in Maya hieroglyphs so far corresponds to 11 August 3114 BCE. Maya hieroglyphs consisted of a elaborate set of logograms and syllabograms inscribed on buildings, stelae, sculptures, and pottery.
