ORCA/Modula-2 is a programming language created by Apple Computer in the 1980s. It is a hybrid of the Modula-2 and Pascal programming languages. It was used by Apple for developing the Macintosh operating system and applications. The language was created at a time when Apple was transitioning from the Apple II to the Macintosh. They needed a language that was structured like Pascal, but had the ability to interface with the low-level hardware like Modula-2. The ORCA/Modula-2 compiler was developed by Apple and released as a commercial product. It was later open-sourced and is now available for free. The language is no longer used by Apple, but there is a small community of enthusiasts that still use it.
