Telugu

Telugu is a Dravidian language spoken in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is also spoken in the neighboring states of Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Telugu is the official language of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It is also one of the 22 scheduled languages of India. The Telugu script is derived from the Brahmi script. Telugu literature dates back to the 11th century CE. The Telugu language is also spoken by a significant minority of people in the states of Maharashtra, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Telugu is one of the most spoken languages in India. According to the Indian census of 2011, Telugu is the mother tongue of 74 million people, making it the sixth most spoken language in India. Telugu is also one of the 22 scheduled languages of India. The earliest inscriptions in the Telugu language date back to the 6th century CE. The Telugu language is also spoken by a significant minority of people in the states of Maharashtra, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
