Georgian

Georgian is the official language of Georgia. It is spoken by approximately 3.5 million people in Georgia and 4 million people in total. Georgian is written in its own unique alphabet, which is based on the ancient Georgian alphabet. The Georgian alphabet is one of the 14 alphabets of the Caucasian family. Georgian is a language of the Kartvelian family, which also includes the Svan and Mingrelian languages. It is closely related to these two languages, as well as to the Laz and Megrelian languages. Georgian is also a head-final language, meaning that the main verb of a sentence comes at the end. Georgian grammar is complex, with many rules governing word order. However, the basic word order is Subject-Object-Verb. Georgian has two main dialects: Eastern Georgian and Western Georgian. The two dialects are quite different, and speakers of one dialect may not be able to understand speakers of the other.
