Croatian is the language spoken in Croatia, a country located in Central Europe. It is also the official language of the European Union. Croatian is a Slavic language and is similar to Serbian, Bosnian, and Montenegrin. The Croatian alphabet has 30 letters and is based on the Latin alphabet. The language is written in the Latin script. Croatian has three dialects: Chakavian, Kajkavian, and Shtokavian. Chakavian is the oldest Croatian dialect and is spoken in the southern part of Croatia. Kajkavian is spoken in the northwestern part of Croatia. Shtokavian is the most widespread Croatian dialect and is spoken in the central and eastern part of Croatia. The Croatian language is very important to the country's culture and identity. It is estimated that there are about 5 million Croatian speakers in the world.
