Brahui

Brahui is a Dravidian language spoken in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Brahui is one of the 22 scheduled languages of Pakistan. It is also one of the 10 non-scheduled languages of Afghanistan. Brahui is mainly spoken in the Kalat and Khuzdar districts of Balochistan province in Pakistan. It is also spoken in the Nimruz and Helmand provinces of Afghanistan. According to the 1998 census of Pakistan, there were 2.8 million speakers of Brahui. Brahui is a member of the southern group of the Dravidian language family. It is most closely related to Kannada, Tulu and Kodagu. Brahui is thought to have been influenced by the Indo-Aryan languages of the region, particularly Sindhi. Brahui is also spoken by the Brahui people, who are found mainly in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Brahui language is written using the Naskh script. This script was introduced by the Brahui people themselves in the 19th century. Prior to this, Brahui was written using a variety of scripts, including the Arabic, Persian and Urdu scripts. Brahui is a mainly spoken language, but it does have a literary tradition. The Brahui people have a rich oral tradition, and many of their stories and poems have been collected and published. Brahui has also been used as a language of instruction in schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
