Guinean Syli

The GNS, or Guinean Syli, is the official currency of Guinea. It is subdivided into 100 centimes. The GNS has been in use since 1959, when it replaced the Guinea Franc. The GNS is issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of Guinea. The GNS is pegged to the French Franc at a rate of 1 GNS = 0.01 French Francs. This peg has been in place since Guinea's independence in 1960. The GNS is not a widely used currency outside of Guinea. However, it is accepted by some money changers in Senegal and Mali. Guinea is a small, poor country in West Africa. Its economy is largely based on agriculture. The main crops grown in Guinea are rice, cassava, sweet potatoes, and peanuts.
