As of September 2019, the AMD is worth $0.0027 USD.
The AMD is the currency of the Republic of Armenia. It is subdivided into 100 luma (լումա) (singular: լումա, luma; Armenian: լուման քանակը [luˈmɑn kʰɑnɑˈkuɛ]) and was introduced on 22 November 1993, replacing the dram at a rate of 1 dram = 100 luma. The name "dram" is derived from the Ancient Greek drachma (δραχμή, drachmē) (plural: drachmae or drachmas). The first mention of the dram as a unit of weight is in the 8th century, in the work of an anonymous author who refers to it as a unit of weight equal to the weight of sixty grains of barley (0.97 g).[1][2]
The AMD became the national currency of Armenia on 24 September 1991, when it replaced the Soviet ruble at a rate of 1 AMD = 1 ruble.
The Armenian dram sign (Դ) is the currency sign of the Armenian dram. It is sometimes colloquially known as the "lu" (լու). It was designed by Vahagn Martirosyan.
