North Ndebele

North Ndebele is a Bantu language spoken in Zimbabwe and Botswana by the Ndebele people. It is a member of the Sotho-Tswana group of languages. The Ndebele people are descended from the Nguni people of South Africa. They migrated northwards in the early 19th century, and settled in what is now Zimbabwe and Botswana. North Ndebele is closely related to Zulu, Swati and Southern Ndebele. It is also related to Ngoni and Sotho-Tswana languages such as Sesotho, Setswana and Sepedi. The language is written using the Latin alphabet. There are two main dialects of North Ndebele, the Bulawayo dialect and the Gweru dialect. The North Ndebele language is taught in schools in Zimbabwe and Botswana. It is also used in the media, including radio and television. There are an estimated 1.5 million speakers of North Ndebele.
