Coptic

Coptic is the native script of the Coptic people, an ethnolinguistic group who mainly inhabit Egypt. It is a descendant of the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, and is thus one of the oldest writing systems in the world. The script was used for religious texts in the Coptic Orthodox Church, and is still in use today. The Coptic alphabet consists of 24 letters, all of which are based on ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. The script is written from right to left, and includes seven vowels. Coptic is a syllabic alphabet, meaning that each letter represents a consonant-vowel pair. The Coptic script has been used for a variety of purposes over the centuries. In addition to religious texts, it has been used for secular purposes such as literature, legal documents, and personal letters. The Coptic script is an important part of the Coptic language and culture. It is one of the few remaining vestiges of the ancient Egyptian civilization, and is a source of pride for the Coptic people.
