Estonia

Estonia is a small country in Northern Europe with a population of just 1.3 million people. It is bordered by Latvia to the south and Russia to the east. Estonia has a long coastline on the Baltic Sea and is made up of many small islands. The capital city of Estonia is Tallinn, which is a beautiful, medieval city with a well-preserved old town. The country is mostly flat with some hills in the east. There are over 1,500 lakes in Estonia and much of the land is covered in forest. Estonia has a long history and was first inhabited over 10,000 years ago. It has been ruled by many different countries over the centuries including Denmark, Sweden, Poland and Russia. Estonia gained independence from Russia in 1918 but was then occupied by the Soviet Union during World War II. It regained its independence in 1991. Estonia is a member of the European Union and the eurozone. It is also a NATO member state. The country has a free-market economy and a highly developed infrastructure. Estonia is a beautiful country with a rich culture and history. It is well worth a visit!
