Soga is a Bantu language spoken in Uganda. It belongs to the Niger-Congo family of languages. Soga is spoken by the Soga people, who are concentrated in the southeastern part of Uganda, in the Jinja and Iganga districts. The Soga language is closely related to Luganda, and the two share a lot of similarities. However, Soga is not mutually intelligible with Luganda, and the two languages are considered to be distinct. Soga is a tonal language, which means that the meaning of a word can change depending on the pitch of the speaker's voice. There are two main dialects of Soga: Jinja Soga and Iganga Soga. The Soga people have a rich oral tradition, and many of their stories and folklore have been passed down through the generations. The Soga language is also used in traditional medicine, and there is a wealth of knowledge about medicinal plants and their uses that is encoded in the language. Soga is an endangered language, as many young people are choosing to use Luganda or English instead. However, there are efforts underway to revitalize the language and ensure its survival.
