Comorian

Comorian, also known as Shikomor, is a Bantu language spoken by the Comorian people on the Comorian Islands. It is closely related to Swahili and other Bantu languages, and is one of the three official languages of the Comoros, along with French and Arabic. Comorian is spoken by around 1 million people, mostly on the island of Grande Comore, as well as in Comoros' neighbouring countries of Mozambique, Tanzania and Mayotte. It is also used as a lingua franca in the Comorian Islands. Comorian is a tonal language, with four tones: high, low, rising and falling. It has a complex system of verbal morphology, with a large number of prefixes and suffixes used to change the meaning of words. Comorian has been influenced by Arabic, French and Swahili, and as a result, many loanwords have been borrowed from these languages. However, the Comorian language is not simply a pidgin or creole of these languages, and has a rich vocabulary and grammar of its own.
