Chadian Arabic

Chadian Arabic, also known as Chadian Spoken Arabic, is a dialect of Arabic spoken in Chad. It is one of the three major varieties of Arabic spoken in the country, along with Sudanese Arabic and Standard Arabic. Chadian Arabic is used as a lingua franca in much of the country, and is also the first language of a significant minority of Chadians. The dialect is closely related to the Arabic dialects of Sudan. It has also been influenced by French, the language of the former colonial power. Chadian Arabic has a number of distinctive features, such as the use of the word jani for "yes" and the use of the word inna for "there is/are". Chadian Arabic is written in a modified form of the Arabic alphabet. It is not taught in schools, but is used in some media and in some government publications.
