Fiji Hindi

Fiji Hindi is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by Fiji Indians, most of whom trace their ancestry to the north and west of India. It is one of the official languages of Fiji, along with English and Fijian. Fiji Hindi is based on the Hindustani language spoken in northern India, with significant influences from other languages spoken in the Indian subcontinent. The language has been in Fiji for over 150 years, and is used in everyday conversation by Fiji Indians. Fiji Hindi has a number of dialects, which are generally mutually intelligible. The dialects are distinguished by the regions where they are spoken, as well as by social and religious groups. The Fiji Hindi language is an important part of the cultural identity of Fiji Indians. It is used in religious ceremonies, as well as in music and dance. Fiji Hindi is also used in the media, particularly in radio and television.
