Gilaki

Gilaki is a language spoken in the Gilan Province of Iran. It is a member of the Northwest Iranian branch of the Indo-Iranian languages. Gilaki is closely related to the Mazandarani and Taleshi languages. Gilaki is spoken by approximately 2.5 million people. The Gilaki language has three dialects: Western Gilaki, Southern Gilaki, and Eastern Gilaki. Western Gilaki is the most commonly spoken dialect, and is spoken in the cities of Rasht and Astara. Southern Gilaki is spoken in the cities of Masuleh and Fuman, and Eastern Gilaki is spoken in the city of Lahijan. Gilaki has a rich literary tradition, and is the only Iranian language with its own alphabet. The Gilaki alphabet is based on the Arabic script, and has 26 letters. Gilaki is a relatively understudied language, and there is still much work to be done in order to document and describe it fully. However, what has been studied so far has shown that Gilaki is a complex and fascinating language, with a rich history and culture behind it.
