The Gayo language is spoken by the Gayo people who live in the Aceh province of Indonesia. It is a member of the Austronesian language family and is closely related to other languages spoken in the region, such as Acehnese and Indonesian. Gayo has around 1.5 million speakers and is used in both everyday conversation and in the media. Gayo is a tonal language, which means that the meaning of a word can change depending on the pitch of the speaker's voice. There are two main dialects of Gayo,Northern Gayo and Southern Gayo, which are distinguished by their use of different tones. The Gayo language is written using the Latin alphabet, and there is a growing body of literature in the language, including poetry, novels, and textbooks. Gayo is also taught in some schools in the Aceh province. Despite the Indonesian government's policy of promoting the use of the national language, Gayo continues to be widely spoken and is an important part of the identity of the Gayo people.
