Zimbabwean Dollar (2009)

The Zimbabwe dollar (sign: $, or ZWL) is the official currency of Zimbabwe. It is subdivided into 100 cents. The dollar was introduced in 1980 to replace the Rhodesian dollar at par. The Zimbabwe dollar is theoretically divided into 100 cents, although coins denominated in cents were not issued until 1994. In 1980, banknotes were introduced in denominations of Z$1, Z$2, Z$5, Z$10 and Z$20. These were followed by notes for Z$50, Z$100 and Z$500 in 1981, Z$1,000 in 1985 and Z$5,000 and Z$10,000 in 1989. A Z$50 million note was introduced in 1999.
