X# (pronounced as X Sharp) is a multi-paradigm programming language and software development environment created by Microsoft. It was first announced in 2000 as part of the eXtensible Markup Language (XML) initiative. The language is based on C# and is intended to be used for writing software that is portable across platforms and devices. The language features include support for object-oriented programming, component-oriented programming, and functional programming. The software development environment for X# includes an integrated development environment (IDE) and a set of tools for working with XML data. The IDE provides a code editor, a debugger, and a set of project templates. The XML tools include an XML editor, an XML schema editor, and an XSLT debugger. The X# programming language is designed to be easy to learn for programmers who are new to the language. The syntax of the language is similar to that of C#. The language also includes a set of standard libraries that provide common functionality such as string manipulation, file input/output, and network communication. X# is an open-source project that is released under the Apache License 2.0. The source code for the language and tools is available on GitHub.
