PostScript is a programming language that enables complex graphics and typographic designs to be created by computers. It is widely used in desktop publishing and printing applications. PostScript code is executed by a PostScript interpreter, which is built into most printers and many other types of output devices. When a document or graphic is printed, the PostScript code is interpreted and the results are output to the device. PostScript is a page description language, meaning that it describes the appearance of a page, rather than its internal structure. This makes it well suited for creating documents that will be printed, but not so suitable for creating interactive applications. PostScript code can be generated by hand, or by using a graphics application that supports PostScript output. Many vector graphics applications, such as Adobe Illustrator, can output PostScript code.
