Wu Chinese

Wu Chinese is a variety of Chinese spoken in the Wu region of China. It is one of the major Chinese dialects, together with Mandarin, Yue and Min. Wu Chinese is spoken by around 80 million people, mainly in the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui. Wu Chinese has a number of distinctive features, including a different pronunciation of Chinese characters, a different vocabulary and a different grammar. For example, in Wu Chinese, the word for "I" is different from that in Mandarin. The Wu dialects are also known for their use of slang and dialect words, which are not used in standard Mandarin. Wu Chinese is not a written language, but there are a number of Wu Chinese characters which are used in certain contexts, such as in Chinese calligraphy.
