Tsimshian

The Tsimshianic languages are a family of languages spoken in northwestern British Columbia and southeastern Alaska on the Tsimshian Peninsula. The Tsimshianic languages consist of two branches, the Coast Tsimshian branch and the Southern Tsimshian branch. The Coast Tsimshian branch is spoken by the Tsimshian people in northwestern British Columbia, while the Southern Tsimshian branch is spoken by the Nisga'a people in southeastern Alaska. The Tsimshianic languages are members of the Na-Dene language family, and are related to the Athabaskan languages, the Tlingit language, and the Haida language. The Tsimshianic languages are split into two branches, the Coast Tsimshian branch and the Southern Tsimshian branch. The Coast Tsimshian branch is spoken by the Tsimshian people in northwestern British Columbia, while the Southern Tsimshian branch is spoken by the Nisga'a people in southeastern Alaska. The Tsimshianic languages are endangered, with only a handful of fluent speakers remaining. The Coast Tsimshian dialect is considered to be the most endangered, with only four fluent speakers remaining as of 2016. The Southern Tsimshian dialect is slightly less endangered, with around 20 fluent speakers remaining.
