Louisiana Creole

Louisiana Creole is a French-based creole language spoken by Louisiana Creole people. It is not to be confused with Louisiana French, a related but distinct French-based creole spoken in Louisiana. The language is primarily French with influences from West African languages, Spanish, and native American languages. It is spoken primarily in Louisiana, with pockets of speakers in southern Mississippi and Alabama. There is no one standard Louisiana Creole, but there are three main dialects: New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Southwest Louisiana. Each dialect has its own unique features, but all are mutually intelligible. Louisiana Creole is declining in use, with most speakers being older generations. However, there is a growing movement to revive the language and keep it alive for future generations.
