Hebrew

Hebrew has been called the "holy tongue" (שפה קדשית) and "language of the prophets" (שפת נביאים). It is one of the oldest languages in the world and the official language of Israel. Hebrew is a Semitic language, related to Arabic and Aramaic. It was the language of the ancient Israelites and was revived as a modern language in the late 19th century. Hebrew is written from right to left and has a unique alphabet of 22 letters. It is spoken by around 9 million people worldwide. Hebrew has a rich literary tradition, including the Bible (Tanakh) and other religious texts, as well as secular works of poetry, philosophy, and history. Modern Hebrew is used in everyday life, as well as in education, the media, and government. It is also one of the official languages of the United Nations.
