Carolina Algonquian

Carolina Algonquian is a language spoken by the Algonquian people of North Carolina. It is closely related to the languages of Virginia and Maryland, and is part of the Eastern Algonquian subgroup. The Algonquian people have a long history in North Carolina, dating back to the early 1600s when they first made contact with English settlers. The Carolina Algonquian language was spoken by the majority of the Algonquian people until the late 1700s, when it began to decline in use. This decline was due to several factors, including the increasing use of English by the Algonquian people, and the growing number of Algonquian people who were marrying outside of their community. Today, Carolina Algonquian is considered to be a endangered language, with only a handful of fluent speakers remaining. However, there is some effort being made to revive the language, through programs such as the North Carolina Language and Life Project. If you're interested in learning more about the Carolina Algonquian language, or any of the other languages spoken by the Algonquian people, be sure to check out the resources available through the Language and Life Project.
