dBase is a database management system for Windows that was originally released in 1985. The software uses the .dbf file format to store data. It was one of the first database management systems for personal computers and was very popular in the 1980s and 1990s. dBase was created by Wayne Ratliff and David Klein. The original name for the software was "Data Base System" but it was later shortened to "dBase". The first version of dBase was written in Clipper, a programming language similar to FoxPro. dBase was originally designed to be used with the dBase II database management system. However, it was quickly adapted to work with other database management systems such as Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle. dBase is a very powerful database management system. It supports multiple users and can be used to manage large databases. dBase also supports SQL queries and can be used to create reports. dBase is not as popular as it once was but it is still used by some businesses. It is not as easy to use as newer database management systems but it is still a powerful tool.
