BLISS is a programming language designed for systems programming. It was developed at Carnegie Mellon University in the early 1970s. BLISS is a statically typed, imperative language with a simple syntax. It has a small set of keywords and operators, and its programs are typically shorter than those written in other languages. BLISS is efficient and portable, and it has been used in a variety of systems, including the Carnegie Mellon University time-sharing system, the DEC VAX operating system, and the IBM RS/6000 operating system. BLISS is no longer in active development, but it remains an interesting example of a simple, efficient programming language.
