Barbadian Dollar

The Barbadian dollar (BBD) is the national currency of Barbados. It is subdivided into 100 cents. The Barbadian dollar is pegged to the U.S. dollar at a rate of 1:1. The first Barbadian dollar was introduced in 1882, replacing the Barbadian pound at a rate of 1 dollar to 4 shillings 2 pence. In 1966, the dollar was decimalized, with 100 cents to the dollar. The Barbadian dollar is used exclusively in Barbados. It is also accepted in some other Caribbean countries, such as the Bahamas and Trinidad and Tobago. The Barbadian dollar is pegged to the U.S. dollar, which means that its value is closely linked to the value of the U.S. dollar. The Barbadian dollar is therefore subject to the same fluctuations as the U.S. dollar. The Barbadian dollar is a freely convertible currency, and there are no restrictions on its movement. The Barbadian dollar is minted by the Central Bank of Barbados and is available in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50 cents, and 1 and 2 dollars.
