Rwanda

Rwanda is a landlocked country in the Great Rift Valley of east-central Africa, bordered by Uganda to the north, Tanzania to the east, Burundi to the south, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west. Its area is 26,338 square kilometers (10,169 square miles), and its population is estimated at 12 million. The capital, Kigali, is located in the center of the country. Rwanda is a republic with a presidential system of government. The president is the head of state and the head of government, and there is a bicameral parliament. The country has a developed economy and a relatively high standard of living. Rwanda is a member of the African Union, the Commonwealth of Nations, the United Nations, and the World Trade Organization. The country has a diverse population, with the majority being of Hutu ethnicity, followed by Tutsi and Twa. The official languages are Kinyarwanda, French, and English. Rwanda is known for its beautiful scenery and wildlife, as well as its tragic history. The country was the site of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide, in which hundreds of thousands of people were killed. Today, Rwanda is a peaceful and prosperous country, and its people are working to rebuild their lives and their country.
