Guinea-Bissau is a country located in West Africa. The official language is Portuguese. The country has a population of 1,815,698 as of 2019. The capital is Bissau.
The country is bordered by Senegal to the north and Guinea to the south and east. The Atlantic Ocean lies to the west. The land area is 36,125 square kilometers.
The climate is tropical with a rainy season from June to November.
The economy is mostly agriculture with rice being the main crop. Other crops include cashews, coconuts, peanuts, and timber. Fishing is also an important part of the economy.
The country has been through a lot of political instability since independence from Portugal in 1974. There have been many coups and military dictatorships. The current president is Umaro Sissoco Embalo.
Guinea-Bissau is a member of the United Nations, the African Union, and the Economic Community of West African States.
