Smalltalk is an object-oriented, dynamically typed, reflective programming language. Smalltalk was created as the language to underpin the "new world" of computing exemplified by "human–computer symbiosis." It was designed and created in part for educational use, more so for children than for professional developers. The language was first generally released as Smalltalk-80. Smalltalk-80 included "Class Libraries" for various tasks, and the now-famous "MVC" software architecture. Smalltalk is widely considered to be one of the most influential programming languages of the late 20th century. Many ideas introduced in Smalltalk have become commonplace in modern software development, including object orientation, class libraries, reflection, and introspection. The name Smalltalk is not derived from the size of the language, but rather from the smalltalk between programmers and computers that the language facilitates.
