S-PLUS is a statistical programming language that was developed in the late 1980s by MathSoft, Inc. It is based on the S language, which was created by John Chambers and others at Bell Laboratories in the 1970s. S-PLUS is primarily used for statistical data analysis, although it can also be used for numerical computation and graphics. It has a wide range of statistical and graphical functions, and it can be extended with user-written functions. S-PLUS is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It is also available as a free software package called R-Splus.
