KornShell is a Unix shell which was developed by David Korn at AT&T Bell Laboratories in the early 1980s. It was intended to be a more powerful alternative to the Bourne shell. It has since been adopted as the default shell on many Unix systems. KornShell is a full-featured shell programming language, with features such as command line editing, job control, and built-in support for a wide variety of programming languages. It also has a number of features which make it particularly well suited for use as an interactive shell, such as an integrated command history and extensive tab completion. KornShell is available under a number of different names, including ksh, pdksh, and mksh. It is also included as part of the GNU Project's Bash shell.
