Taroko

The Taroko language is a Formosan language spoken in Taroko National Park on the island of Taiwan. It is closely related to other Formosan languages, such as Amis and Atayal. Taroko is a endangered language, with only around 200 speakers remaining. However, there is some effort being made to revive the language, with a Taroko dictionary and grammar being published in 2017. The Taroko people are an indigenous people of Taiwan, and their language is reflective of this. The Taroko language has been described as a "melting pot" of Formosan languages, as it has borrowed words from many different languages. This is due to the Taroko people's history of contact with other groups, such as the Han Chinese, Japanese, and Dutch. The Taroko language is an important part of the Taroko people's identity. For many years, the Taroko people were forced to speak Mandarin Chinese, the national language of Taiwan. However, in recent years, there has been a resurgence of interest in the Taroko language and culture. This has been spurred on by the formation of the Taroko Heritage Foundation, which is working to preserve the language and culture of the Taroko people.
