Norwegian Bokmål

Norwegian Bokmål is the written standard of Norwegian, used by about 85% of the population. It is based on Norwegian dialects and the written Danish language. Bokmål means "book language". The name Bokmål is used in two different senses. First, it refers to the fact that Bokmål is the standard language used in Norwegian books. Secondly, it refers to the fact that Bokmål is based on the Norwegian dialects, which are also known as "book dialects". Bokmål is very similar to Danish, with which it shares a common origin. However, Bokmål has been influenced by Norwegian dialects, and as a result, it is more Norwegian than Danish. Bokmål is also more conservative than Danish, and it has retained many features of the old Norwegian language that have been lost in Danish. Bokmål is written in a Latin alphabet, with three additional letters: æ, ø, and å. These letters are used to represent the sounds of the Norwegian dialects that Bokmål is based on. Bokmål is the official language of Norway, and it is one of the two official languages of the Norwegian government. Bokmål is also one of the two official languages of the Norwegian Armed Forces.
